The Wedge Cat Tour is where all of this started. In 2017 John Edwards, who writes the neighbourhood paper Wedge LIVE!, had been on the sort of walking tour that points at buildings and thought the neighbourhood had something better to point at. He mapped a route past a few households happy to put their cats in the window, and about thirty people turned up.

It has run every year since. The 2025 tour drew more than five hundred people, one of them in a t-shirt reading "I traveled 2000 miles to see your cats", which is the single best summary of this whole phenomenon anybody has managed.

The format every other walk borrowed comes from here: residents volunteer their own cats as attractions, in apartment windows, on porches, in gardens and catios, and everybody else walks slowly past being delighted. Nothing is for sale. No cat has to do anything. It is a neighbourhood introducing itself to itself, using cats as the excuse.

Dates move every year. Wedge LIVE! has this year鈥檚.

Chonks already found in Minneapolis

Real cats, found by real people, on the streets you are about to walk down. Every one of them started as somebody stopping to take a photo.

Walking it? Bring a Chonk-dex.

Chonk Finder turns the cats you meet into trading cards. It works on the route, and it works on your own street on a Tuesday, which is the bit the walk cannot do.

  1. Meet a catOn the route, in a window, on a wall. Any cat counts.
  2. Take its photoYou get a card back: a name, a rarity, and two attacks it did not consent to.
  3. Find it againFour different people find the same cat and it becomes a Chonk. Permanently.
