Fernwood runs the longest walk on this list: a 7.5 kilometre self-guided ramble around one of Victoria’s oldest neighbourhoods, past houses whose people have agreed to have their cats on display for the afternoon. The most recent one had twenty-nine stops and forty-one cats.
You collect a map at Little Fernwood and go at your own pace. Cats appear in windows, in catios and on leashes in front gardens, their people standing by to tell you the cat’s entire life story if you give them the smallest opening. You vote for a favourite stop at the end.
It lands the same day as the Fernwood Art Stroll and the Ichigo Strawberry Market, so the whole neighbourhood is already outside. Hundreds of people came to the most recent one.
