Be kind to cats and people

Take photos from where you are allowed to be. Do not climb fences, do not corner or grab an animal to get a shot, and do not go after other players. A cat that does not want to be photographed has answered you.

Your content

Your photos stay yours. You keep the copyright, you can use them anywhere you like, and by adding one you are telling us it is yours to give: you took it, or you have the right to use it.

In return you give Chonk Finder a worldwide, perpetual, royalty-free licence to use your photos and the cats you find however we see fit: in the app and on the website, in the cards, printed cards, packs and other things we sell, in our marketing, store listings, press, social posts and videos, and in anything Chonk Finder grows into, in any medium, now or later. That includes cropping, editing, captioning and combining them with other people’s photos, and letting the people who help us make these things, like a print shop or an app store, handle them for us.

That licence does not end when you leave. Deleting your account removes your profile and your name from the app, but the photos you added and the cats you found stay in Chonk Finder, and we can keep using them as this section describes.

Names stay. A cat is called what its finder called it, wherever it turns up.

If you own a cat that somebody else found and you would rather it stayed off the show, tell us and that is the end of it. The animal outranks the game.

Game rules

Points, First Finder spots, Chonk status and the Chonk’s Favorite crown are all part of a game that is still being built. They can change.

The name and the look are ours

Chonk Finder, the logo, the cat on the icon, the card designs, the names Chonk, Chonk Pass and Chonk’s Favorite, and the way the app and the site look and sound are our brand and our trademarks, registered or not.

Do not use them to name or dress up a product, an app, an account, an event, a print or a page, or in any way that suggests we made it or back it, without asking us in writing first. Fan things are fine. Things that look like they came from us are not.

What we made stays ours

The app, the website, the guides, the cat walks, the writing, the artwork, the card designs, the code and the data we put together are ours and are protected by copyright and other laws.

You are welcome to read, link, and screenshot for your own use. You may not copy the guides or the cards, scrape the site or the app, republish our writing or artwork, or build another product or service from any of it without our written permission.

Printed cards and anything else you buy from us are yours to keep and give away. The design on them stays ours.

Your licence to play

We give you a personal licence to use the app on your own devices to play the game. It is not transferable and it is all you get: no reverse engineering, no bots, no reselling, no copying the service.

Other people’s work

Some photographs on the site were taken by other people and are used under a Creative Commons licence. Their name and the licence are printed beside the picture; those photographs belong to them, and their licence, not this one, says how they may be reused.

Maps are from OpenStreetMap and its contributors. Apple, Google and the store names belong to their owners.

If something of yours is on here

If you believe something on Chonk Finder infringes your copyright, uses your likeness, or shows your cat without your permission, write to hello@chonkfinder.app with what it is, where it is and how to reach you. We take it down while we look, and we tell you what we did.

Ideas you send us

Suggestions, feature ideas and bug reports you send us are ours to use without owing you anything. We will still say thank you.

Accounts

What happens on your device is on you. You can delete your account any time in Settings, and it goes for good.

No warranty

This is made by one person in Victoria. It is offered as is. We try hard to keep it running and we cannot promise it never breaks.
