The one that made the format go viral: twenty-one cats, fifteen stops, and a TikTok that took it worldwide.

Natalie Czerwinski heard about the Minneapolis tour, thought "why not bring this here", and walked about a hundred people three miles across Toronto past twenty-one cats at fifteen stops. She led it herself, on foot, for roughly two hours.

Then TikTok found it. The tour’s Instagram went from 1,400 followers to more than 16,000 inside a month, and the idea stopped being a Minneapolis curiosity and became a thing other neighbourhoods could copy.

Which they did. The Dublin organiser says she got the idea from Toronto; the Somerville one credits Minneapolis and Toronto together. If this list has a hinge, it is this walk.

Dates move every year. Natalie Czerwinski has this year’s.

Nobody has caught a cat in Toronto yet.

Not one. The whole city is unclaimed, which means every cat you meet on this walk is a first find with your name on it, permanently, on a card nobody else can have.

Someone is going to be first.

Walking it? Bring a Chonk-dex.

Chonk Finder turns the cats you meet into trading cards. It works on the route, and it works on your own street on a Tuesday, which is the bit the walk cannot do.

  1. Meet a catOn the route, in a window, on a wall. Any cat counts.
  2. Take its photoYou get a card back: a name, a rarity, and two attacks it did not consent to.
  3. Find it againFour different people find the same cat and it becomes a Chonk. Permanently.
